The Aesthetics of Research
February 1, 2014 - May 20, 2014
While library use and research are integral to traditional scholarship, the role they play in artistic creation is very often overlooked. The Aesthetics of Research showcases how Columbia artists use library and research materials as foundation and inspiration for creative projects across all disciplines. By displaying both the finished work and bibliography, which generated that work, the selected pieces not only offer key insight into individual creative/scholarly process, but reinforce the place of research in artistic practice. Curated by members of the Library’s Access Services Department in conjunction with the College Archives, this exhibit will be the first in a series devoted to exploring the link between process and product and the role that libraries play in laying fertile ground for both.
