About the Program
Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Maine is offering two opportunities for Columbia College students of color to be awarded fellowships for one of six sessions during summer workshops. Workshops will be held in one- and two-week sessions throughout June to August. The goal of the fellowship program is to offer students opportunities for exposure to national and international communities of learning and making beyond Columbia College and the Chicago area to augment their studies and gain professional experience within the greater arts community-at-large.
Students of color are defined as having Black, Latinx, Asian, Middle Eastern, Northern African or Native American ancestry. LGBTQIA students of color are encouraged to apply.
The fellowship includes: a fully funded placement in one of six workshops that takes place between June 11th and August 27th, a $500 travel reimbursement offered by Haystack; and $100 towards shop fees and materials supported by Columbia College. Housing and all meals are included.
Application Requirements:
- Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 grade average, be in good academic standing to be eligible, and have no outstanding incompletes at the end of the spring semester to accept an award.
- Priority will be given to current graduate students, undergraduate juniors or seniors returning for their final year or semester in the Fall of 2023.

- Statement (250-word max): the statement should offer a compelling argument why this program is important for the student, and at this moment in their education.
