Hybrid and Remote Instruction Support

In the Spring of 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic necessitated a swift transition to remote instruction for most every school, college, and university in the United States, as well as many others across the globe. Mid-March, Columbia College Chicago paused instruction for two weeks during which time we assessed student and faculty technology needs, marshalled and developed new teaching and learning resources, and our leveraged on-campus online pedagogy expertise in order to help support faculty in preparing for remote instruction.

Among the most notable efforts in this regard were the creation and development of a Faculty Online Pedagogy Team and the development of our Remote Instruction Support website. At the end of the semester, we hosted Faculty Development Days, a collaborative, transdisciplinary, virtual faculty development conference facilitated by our colleagues who have volunteered to provide a space for everyone to bring their ideas, thoughts, and concerns regarding what it means to teach in higher education mid-pandemic.

While the acute crisis of immediate transition to remote learning has passed, the impact of the pandemic is far from over. This website has been updated to include additional information regarding hybrid course design, as well as strategies for face-to-face teaching under social-distancing constraints. We will also continue to offer additional opportunities for faculty development and discussion throughout the year

As always, instructors can receive help for Canvas through Canvas Support, which is available 24/7 through the help icon within Canvas.

Academic Technology may also be reached for assistance at canvaslms@colum.edu.

If you are less comfortable with Canvas, or would like a review, we have created an online Canvas Refresher course. Instructors may also enroll in an online Transitioning to Remote Instruction course. If you would prefer a face-to-face Canvas Basics course or would like to take our Teaching Online at Columbia College Chicago course, you can sign up here.
