Alum Brandon Faris '02 Part of Team Behind New Run-DMC Docu-Series
This month the original docu-series “Kings From Queens: The Run DMC Story” premiered on Peacock with Audio Arts and Acoustics Alum Brandon Faris ’02 among the editors serving on the project. The series tells the story of the pioneering hip hop trio from Hollis, Queens.
Majoring in Audio Engineering at Columbia College Chicago, Faris professionally pivoted from audio to video and film after the music industry experienced a major disruption — Napster and free music streaming. As a versatile Columbia creative, he successfully navigated the transition and has since enjoyed a 15-year career in commercial advertising followed by working as a documentary film editor.
“This accomplishment shows the resilience of Columbia College graduates finding a way in the midst of adversity,” he says.
In addition to “Kings From Queens,” Faris’ recent documentary work includes “Billion Dollar Babies: The True Story of the Cabbage Patch Kids” (2022) and “Texas Music Revolution” (2023), a film he wrote and edited that features Charley Crockett and Kiefer Sutherland.
Faris also launched a short film social channel @pocketdocsproject on YouTube and Instagram where he explores small stories shot on his phone.
You can check out “Kings From Queens: The Run DMC Story” now streaming on Peacock.
