A Letter From President Bolton

Columbia College Chicago is proud to share that our Board of Trustees has formally approved our 2026 to 2029 Strategic Plan, Renaissance Rising: Shaping Tomorrow Together.

This plan represents a defining moment for our institution. It reflects both the strength of our 135-year legacy and a clear, forward-looking vision for how Columbia will lead in an evolving higher education landscape.

At its core, Renaissance Rising is grounded in four strategic priorities that will guide our work in the years ahead. These priorities include stabilizing enrollment, elevating Columbia’s brand, strengthening philanthropy, and enhancing operational effectiveness. Together, they ensure that our work is aligned, focused, and sustainable.

Columbia has always stood apart as a college that prepares students not only to study creative fields, but to work , lead, and reshape the creative economy. This plan builds on that foundation by aligning our academic programs, institutional operations, and financial strategies with the realities of today’s creative industries and tomorrow’s opportunities.

Importantly, our strategic plan was shaped through the voices of our community. More than 600 stakeholders including students, faculty, staff, alumni, trustees, parents, and external partners contributed insights that informed its development. This collective effort ensures that the plan reflects our shared values and aspirations.

As we move forward, our focus will be on execution, accountability, and continued engagement. This is not the conclusion of a process. It is the beginning of a new chapter.

Together, we are positioning Columbia not only to endure, but to lead.

With gratitude and optimism,
President Bolton signature

  • Engagement

Engagement opportunities will extend beyond the task force and workstreams. A series of listening sessions will invite input from students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners. Community conversations across Chicago will unite residents, business leaders, and cultural partners in meaningful collaboration. An online forum and feedback portal will offer continuous dialogue and allow stakeholders to submit questions in advance. Structured sessions using the 4R Recovery Framework will ensure that input reflects facts, risks, opportunities, and creative solutions. These dialogues will remind us that Renaissance Rising is not simply a plan, but a movement shaped by collective imagination and shared purpose.
