About
The Faculty Development Portfolio is Columbia College Chicago’s central website for resources and services available to faculty. Housed in the Office of the Provost, our team of faculty and staff design and maintain this portfolio to provide comprehensive information in all areas of faculty development and support faculty in the areas in which they are evaluated—teaching, creative and scholarly endeavor, and service.
We are here to:
- Provide faculty support through individual appointments, department collaborations, on-site workshops, and online resources
- Facilitate direct-instruction workshops, faculty showcases, collaboration with Academic Technology for technology support, and department-oriented course development
- Onboard new faculty
- Support faculty with grants
- Support in all areas relevant to evaluation and promotion
We support individuals, academic programs/units, and Columbia College Chicago more broadly to motivate creative and scholarly achievement, to create engaging classroom experiences and a 21st century education, and to facilitate conversation between faculty and administration.
By working closely with campus partners, including Academic Technology, Academic Services, Assessment and Accreditation, Human Resources, Information Technology, the Library, and Student Affairs, our goal is to support faculty in their professional endeavors and role as educators to our students.
Faculty members (both full- and part-time) may schedule an appointment with the Associate Provost of Faculty Research and Development to discuss their professional development in any areas in which faculty are evaluated: teaching, creative and scholarly endeavor, and service. All meetings are confidential. The Associate Provost will work with your schedule, and location will be based on your convenience.
For an appointment, please email skerns@colum.edu. In your request, please include information on why you’d like to meet and send ideas of a few blocks of time that usually work for you during the week.
