1. “Academic Freedom” will have the meaning specified in Section I.A.

B. Other Terms

1. Business Day. The phrase “Business Day” will mean a day, Monday through Friday, that the College is open for business.

2. Deliver. The term “Deliver” will mean (a) to mail by certified or registered mail, (b) to send by express courier such as Federal Express, (c) to Deliver by messenger or in person, or (d) to comply with any other delivery procedure specified by the Office of the Provost.

3. Reviewing Faculty. All available members of the tenure-track faculty member’s Department who hold Tenured Appointments. This does not include the Department Chair, Acting or Interim Chair (if any), and those that hold administrative appointments outside the department. Departments with a Reviewing Faculty of five or more will be fully constituted. In departments with fewer than five Reviewing Faculty members, the School Dean (in consultation with the Department Chair and the applicant) will select additional Reviewing Faculty members from among those holding tenured appointments with relevant disciplinary expertise in other departments in whatever number is necessary to bring the Reviewing Faculty’s membership to five persons. In most cases, these tenured faculty will be drawn from within the department’s school; however, where appropriate, Reviewing Faculty members may be selected from another school in consultation with that School Dean. In all cases, School Deans and Department Chairs will use their best efforts to convene a Reviewing Faculty with disciplinary expertise as close as possible to that of the applicant.
