Neil Pagano, PhD, is the associate provost for Accreditation and Assessment at Columbia College Chicago. Pagano’s primary responsibilities are to oversee the college’s accreditation efforts with its regional accreditor the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), direct assessment of all academic and co-curricular units, and facilitate Program Review of academic departments and non-academic units.

Pagano joined the Columbia community in 2001 as associate dean for the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences before he was appointed to associate provost in 2016. As associate dean, he led the school’s efforts in curriculum, scheduling, space, assessment, and external funding, while also serving as the director of the Honors Program. Pagano’s external funding efforts have included successfully securing funding for the college’s U.S. Department of Education Title III grant, a FIPSE grant, and funding for the Early Childhood Education Program’s BA Completion grant.  

Pagano has served as a consultant to more than 100 institutions, primarily on assessment, accreditation, and curriculum. In addition, he is honored to serve as a Peer Reviewer and Team Chair for the HLC’s Pathways accreditation process, as Mentor for HLC’s Assessment Academy, and as a member of HLC’s Institutional Actions Council.

Pagano received a PhD in Higher Education from Loyola University Chicago, an MEd from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a BA in English from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
